Roald Dahl’s work gives his young audience the instinctive fight or flight reaction through adult themes scarcely available to them in children’s literature. Death, survival and their struggle with morality forms a key theme in his writing.Although Quentin Blake’s illustrations have become synonymous with Dahl’s writing I decided to challenge myself with creating my own interpretation. "The Magic Finger", the first in the "Painting Dahl" series. This is the turning point in “The Magic Finger” when the protagonist realises she has to have responsibility over her magical outbursts and right all the arm-swapping madness she’s caused before people die.
Acrylics on canvas board, 2014.
